LATE ROUTINE CHANGE
In early 2021 she, her teammate Joana Jimenez and their coach Adriana Loftus decided to make significant changes to their duet routine in order to make it more competitive less than four months before the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "We had an exhibition in Guadalajara [Mexico] and a few days before we had seen some of our rivals and realised that our routine was not that competitive in terms of music. There are some tunes that no matter how fast they can be played, there is a rhythm and a melody that have to be respected." They then decided to create a routine based on the fast rhythm song, Michael Sembello's 'Maniac'. "It was mutual agreement and my teammate and our coaches agreed that it was very risky to change, about three-and-a-half months before the competition, a routine that has been practised for over a year. But we have the technical level of performance. We added new music and the goal is that people on TV and judges connect with us in those two-and-a-half minutes. People who have seen the routine have told us that it transmits a lot of energy and that was exactly what we wanted." (lifeandstyle.expansion.mx, 30 May 2021)

FUTURE PLANS
She hopes to continue working in artistic swimming after she has retired from competing in the sport. "I would like to give back to sport some of what sport has given to me. I would like to sponsor athletes, create synchronised swimming clinics and to head the sport at federation level. I think more officials with an athletic background are needed. Most of us athletes are never taught how to direct ourselves, speak, answer media and manage a media crisis. I'd love to launch a project for athletes that supports them in their personal development and in their retirement because, now that I find myself in the final stage of my career, I realise there is no one who can guide me, who could tell me what to do and how to be prepared." (lifeandstyle.expansion.mx, 30 May 2021; marca.com, 08 Mar 2017; espn.com.mx, 15 Aug 2016)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
She and some of her teammates from the Mexican national team have ran an artistic swimming equipment company in Mexico called Cola de Pez.(Facebook profile, 16 Dec 2019; milenio.com, 05 Jan 2019; revistainspiras.com, 17 May 2018)

FURTHER STUDIES
She has studied master's degrees in marketing and public image. (lifeandstyle.expansion.mx, 30 May 2021; anahuac.mx, 11 Sep 2020)

SANCTION
In 2010 she tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol. She was suspended for a year and stripped of the six gold medals she won at the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. She said she ingested the substance via cough syrup that her father, a doctor, had prescribed for her. "I made a serious mistake, not being aware of the contents of the medicine I took, but that medicine did not make me stronger." (jornada.com.mx, 08 Feb 2016; milenio.com, 13 Sep 2011; informador.mx, 07 Aug 2010, 05 Aug 2010)
