General Interest

General
The US men placed fifth in the team all-around event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, recording the third-highest scores on the vault and parallel bars in the final. They also ranked fifth at the 2012 Games in London, having won bronze four years previously in Beijing, and silver at Athens 2004.

The United States of America won all three medals at the first Games to feature the men's team all-around competition, in 1904 in St. Louis, due to the event only being contested by teams representing US clubs. The US men won their only other Olympic gold medal at Los Angeles 1984, having claimed silver in the same city in 1932.

They secured their spot in Tokyo by placing fourth at the 2019 World Championships, a result that matched their performance at the 2018 edition of the tournament. They have won two world championship silver medals, in 2001 and 2003, while they secured bronze in both 2011 and 2014. They also won bronze in 1979, but have never claimed the world title.

At the 2019 Pan American Games the US team took silver behind Brazil. It was their 16th podium finish at the Games since 1955, with eight of those medals gold.
