TAKING A BREAK
In February 2017 she decided to travel for a while and went to countries like Australia, New Zealand, Chinese Taipei and Japan. She was still training during her travels, as she gave some workshops and clinics and trained in the places that she visited. In June 2017 she returned to training with the national team but in the next year she reported that she was not ready to return to top flight competition. "My body was empty. I could no longer press a button to really be able to do what I wanted again. That was very frustrating and unreal. Of course I still had a goal, but I was not able to do the work that was needed to achieve that. I could hardly accept it. I just lost control of my body." In September 2018 she went to Tenerife, Spain, to try and get competition-fit and begin training for her goal to reach the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She returned to international competition in 2019. "I had to rediscover myself, but also my goals. See what I still wanted. The joy and passion are back. I can look towards the future again with excitement." (gymnovosti.com, 17 Apr 2019; theforce.kngu.nl, 12 Oct 2018; Dutch Gymnastics KNGU YouTube Channel, 04 Jun 2017; rtvoost.nl, 03 Jun 2019)
