In early 2011 he tore the anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in his right knee while practising a floor exercise. He was unable to compete for a year and missed the qualifying tournaments for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. In 2014 he tore his ACL again while competing at a World Cup event in Cottbus, Germany.
