BANNED ELEMENT
He performed a triple front somersault on vault at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The International Gymnastics Federation [FIG] banned the element following the Games due to concerns that the risk of injury was too great. He said he wanted to take the risk in Rio de Janeiro, where he placed eighth in vault. "My main goal was to win a medal. Somewhere deep down I knew it was a strong and serious element, and there was a good chance the FIG would ban it, which they did in the end."
