POSTPONING RETIREMENT
In 2017 doctors advised him to retire from competitive archery due to persistent injury problems with his right shoulder. However, he decided to continue his sporting career in order to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "In 2017 suddenly I was not able to draw a bow during the national team's training camp, and it was difficult for me to hear about the need for retirement. I am eager to participate in the Olympic Games once again. My childhood dream was also just to be there, not to claim Olympic gold. I have endured shoulder pain for three years for the 2020 Olympics, so why can't I endure it one more year? I prepared my mind to accept that reality [following the postponement of the Tokyo Games until 2021] and start again, and found I had the energy to do so." (donga.com, 12 Apr 2020; chosun.com. 25 Mar 2020)

OTHER ROLES
He served as a representative on the World Archery athletes' committee from 2015 until 2019. (worldarchery.sport, 31 Dec 2019; mooye.net, 27 Dec 2016; english.chosun.com, 30 Jul 2015)
