In 2018 he visited a bioenergeticist in Slovenia, who helped him recover from the problem. (teamusa.org, 29 Aug 2019; teamusa.org, 26 Sep 2018)

General
SLOVENIAN BIOENERGETICIST
He experienced severe pain in the middle finger of his right hand through 2017 and 2018. The problem was so bad that he was considering leaving the sport, but ahead of the 2018 World Cup Final he visited a bioenergeticist in Slovenia. "No one could figure out what was wrong. I got to the point where I was like, I quit. I can't do this anymore. It's not worth it. I was still competing, but I was struggling to stay in the top eight in the world. I wasn't winning any international events and I wasn't shooting enough. I wasn't good enough and I wasn't at the level I knew I could be at and it was too frustrating to do it anymore. [The bioenergeticist] didn't give me medicine, he barely even touches you at all. He's just one of those people who has a higher frequency of energy in their body. It's a gift, and he can use it to heal people. I haven't had any pain at all this year [2019], not a single thing. I'm shooting just as many or more arrows now than I ever have in my career." (teamusa.org, 29 Aug 2019)

NEW FORMAT
He is excited to compete in the mixed team event at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. The discipline is part of the Olympic programme for the first time in Tokyo. "I think it's a big step for sports. There's not a lot of mixed team events in the Games. Not a lot of sports where men and women compete together on the same field as a team. I think that's good for sports and the future to have that. I think it's cool in archery when you see men and women shoot together. It showcases how good the women are, too, because a lot of times they outshoot the men." (teamusa.org, 26 Sep 2018)

FILM
In the summer of 2020 a documentary film about him was released named 'Believe'. (tokyo2020.org, 31 Mar 2021)

HIP PROBLEMS
At age five he was diagnosed with Perthes disease, a condition that affects the hips. He had to wear special leg braces for over a year so that his hips could heal. (phoenixmag.com, 01 Jun 2012)
