MOVE TO JAPAN
She was born in Jeonju, Republic of Korea, but was unable to go to university after graduating from high school, despite competing for the business team Hyundai Mobis. Her mother, who had remarried in Japan, told her it was possible for elite foreign athletes to enter university there, so Ren moved to Japan in 2007 and gained Japanese citizenship in 2009.
