General Interest
Athletes from the Solomon Islands made their first Olympic appearance at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles where a three-man team competed in athletics and weightlifting events. One of the three, Leslie Ata, finished 16th in the men's 67.5kg weightlifting event and then stepped up to the 75kg division at the 1992 Games in Barcelona, becoming his NOC's first two-time Olympian.
The first woman to represent the NOC was Nester Geniwala'a, she ran the 100m at the Atlanta 1996 Games but failed to advance past the first round.
The Rio 2016 Games were the Solomon Islands' ninth Olympic participation and the Pacific Island nation sent a team of two women and one man to compete in athletics and weightlifting.
