General Interest

Three athletes represented Rwanda at its first Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984. Since then, the NOC has sent teams to compete in every edition of the Games, with the majority of its representatives taking part in athletics events.

Mathias Ntawulikura is both Rwanda's most prolific and most successful athlete. Ntawulikura competed at five Games between 1988 and 2004, carrying the NOC's flag twice in the opening ceremony. He also has the NOC's best performance, an eighth-place finish in the 10,000m event in Atlanta. He backed that up in 2000 by stepping up to the marathon distance, finishing 15th.

Rwanda's Rio 2016 team was made up of four men and three women, competing in four sports.
