General Interest
Oman competed at the Olympic Games for the first time in 1984 and has fielded a delegation at every Games since. The first team was by far its largest so far, with an all-male 16-member team travelling to Los Angeles to compete in athletics, sailing and shooting events.
Mohammed Al Malki is a three-time Olympian who competed in athletics at the 1984, 1988 and 1992 Games. At the 1988 Games he reached the final of the men's 400m, finishing eighth.
The first woman to represent Oman, Buthayna Ayed Al-Yacoobi, ran the 100m sprint at the Beijing 2008 Games.
At the most recent Games in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Oman sent a team of two men and two women to compete in athletics and shooting events.
