General Interest

Issaka Dabore has the dual honour of being both Niger's first Olympian and first Olympic medallist. A boxer, Dabore was Niger's lone representative at the NOC's first Games in Tokyo in 1964 where he competed in the men's welterweight division, finishing fifth. He dropped down to the light-welterweight division at the 1968 and 1972 Games, taking bronze in the latter.

The first woman to represent Niger competed at the Atlanta 1996 Games. At age 14 Rachida Mahamaneran the women's 5000m event, finishing 16th in her heat.

At the Rio 2016 Games, four men and two women represented Niger in four sports. Taekwondoka Abdoulrazak Issoufou Alfaga claimed the NOC's second Olympic medal in 2016, taking silver in the men's heavyweight category.
