General Interest
The Tokyo 1964 Games were Nepal's first, with a team of six athletes competing in boxing and athletics events.
Since the 1964 Games, Nepal has only once failed to send a team to the Games, and in that time it has entered most of its competitors in athletics and boxing. Nepal's most prolific athlete, Baikuntha Manandhar, ran the marathon at four-consecutive Games between 1976 and 1988. He finished every attempt over the distance with his best result, a 37th, coming at the 1980 Games in Moscow.
At the Rio 2016 Games, Nepal sent a seven-person team to compete in five sports - athletics, swimming, judo, archery and taekwondo. The delegation included the youngest competitor at the Games, swimmer Gaurika Singh. She was aged 13 years and 256 days when she swam in the women's 100m backstroke event.
