Namibia - Profile
General Interest
Namibia made its debut at the Olympic Games in 1992 in Barcelona and immediately had success in two of the most high-profile events at the Games - the men's 100m and 200m sprints.
Frankie Fredericks won silver in both, beginning a run of two Games in which he would establish himself as one of the best sprinters in the history of the sport to never win an Olympic gold medal. He repeated the double-silver result at the 1996 Games, continuing a trend that saw him finish behind four different gold medallists over the two Games.
After missing the 2000 Olympic Games due to an Achilles injury, Fredericks returned for his third and final Games in Athens in 2004. He did not reach the final of the 100m, but finished fourth in the 200m.
At the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, Namibia sent 10 athletes to compete in five sports. Fredericks' four silver medals remain the NOC's only Olympic podium finishes.
