General Interest
Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, has missed just one edition of the Games since its first participation in 1948. In the 17 Games before Tokyo 2020, the NOC has primarily sent representatives to compete in athletics, boxing and weightlifting events.
Weightlifter Thi Win Kay achieved one of the best results for an athlete from Myanmar when she finished fourth in the women's 48kg division at the Sydney 2000 Games.
Three Myanmarese athletes have participated at three editions of the Games - weightlifter Tun Maung Nil [1952-1960], boxer Thein Myint [1956-1964] and middle-distance runner Khin Khin Htwe [1988-1996].
At the most recent Games in Rio in 2016, Myanmar sent four men and three women to compete in five sports.
