General Interest
The Tokyo 2020 Games will be Mauritania's 10th Olympic Games, and every representative of the NOC since 1992 has competed in athletics.
At the first two Games, Mauritania sent athletes to compete in wrestling events, with Omar Samba Sy filling the role of flag bearer at both the 1984 and 1988 editions.
At the Rio 2016 Games, two Mauritanians, Jidou el Moctar and Houleye Ba, competed in athletics, but neither advanced past the first round in their event.
