General Interest
Athletes from the Maldives have competed at every Olympic Games since Seoul in 1988 where an all-male team of seven athletes contested athletics events.
At London 2012, Mohamed Ajfan Rasheed became the only athlete representing the NOC to compete in a sport other than athletics or swimming when he contested the badminton singles event.
Ahmed Shageef is the Maldivian athlete with the most Olympic appearances, he entered athletics events in 1988, 1992 and 1996. Swimmer Aminath Hussain contested the women's 50m freestyle at two consecutive Games, in 2004 and 2008, becoming the first female dual-Olympian from the Maldives.
The Maldives sent a team of four athletes to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, competing in swimming and athletics.
