General Interest
At Madagascar's first Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, three athletes competed in athletics events. Jean-Louis Ravelomanatsoa was one of the athletes who went to the 1964 Games, but it was four years later that he had what remains the NOC's best Olympic performance when he reached the final of the men's 100m, finishing eighth. Ravelomanatsoa went on to compete again in 1972 to become the first of four Malagasy athletes to compete at three Olympic Games.
Hurdler Nicole Ramalalanirina competed at the 1992 and 1996 Games for Madagascar before switching her allegiance to France for the 2000 Games. She went on to compete at a fourth Games in Athens, again for France.
At the Rio 2016 Games, Madagascar sent a team of six athletes to compete in four sports.
