General Interest

An all-male team represented Lebanon in three sports at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, the first for the NOC. Since then, Lebanon has sent at least one athlete to every edition of the Games except Melbourne 1956.

Wrestling and weightlifting are the sports in which the NOC has claimed medals, with three of the four total coming in Greco-Roman events. The first two medals were won in Greco-Roman wrestling on the same day in 1952, one silver by Zakaria Chihab in the 57kg division and the other a bronze by Khalil Taha in the 73kg class. It was 20 years later when Mohamed Kheir Tarabulsi won Lebanon's third medal, setting a 472.5kg mark to take silver in the men's 75kg weightlifting at the 1972 Games.

Lebanon's most recent Olympic medal was won by Greco-Roman wrestler Hassan Bchara, who claimed bronze in the men's +100kg division in Moscow in 1980.

At the Rio 2016 Games, nine Lebanese athletes competed across seven sports.
