General Interest
The Lao People's Democratic Republic first competed at the 1980 Games in Moscow and the team has missed just one Games since. At that first Games, the NOC sent its largest ever team of 17 men and two women. Since 1980, it has never sent a team larger than six athletes.
Lao athletes have largely competed in athletics events, but also have represented the NOC in swimming, shooting, boxing, archery, judo and road cycling.
At the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, six athletes represented the Lao People's Democratic Republic. The delegation in Brazil included the NOC's youngest-ever Olympic athlete. Swimmer Siri Arun Budcharem competed in the women's 50m freestyle event at age 14 years and 214 days.
