General Interest
Athletes representing Haiti first won an Olympic medal at the 1924 Games in Paris, where a team of five shooters claimed bronze in the men's 400m, 600m, and 800m team free rifle. Sylvio Cator then won silver in men's long jump at the 1928 Games in Amsterdam, which was the last time a Haitian athlete claimed an Olympic medal.
Haiti has sent more competitors to participate in athletics than any other sport at the Olympic Games. Sprinter Mireille Joseph became Haiti's first female Olympian at the 1972 Games in Munich, contesting the women's 100m, while distance runner Dieudonne Lamothe holds the NOC's Olympic appearance record with four. He ran the men's 5000m at Montreal 1976, and then competed in the marathon at three consecutive editions of the Games between 1984 and 1992.
At the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, the NOC was represented by 10 athletes across seven sports. In Brazil, freestyle wrestler Asnage Castelly became the oldest athlete to have represented Haiti at the Olympic Games when he competed in the men's 74kg division at age 38 years and 143 days.
