General Interest
Gambia's first Olympic appearance was at the 1984 Games, with 10 competitors from the NOC participating solely in athletics. Twin brothers Paul Ceesay [1500m] and Peter Ceesay [800m] were the only athletes not to compete in sprint events in Los Angeles.
Dawda Jallow has represented Gambia at more editions of the Olympic Games than any other athlete. He competed at four consecutive Olympic Games between 1984 and 1996, running the 400m as well as the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.
Adama Njie competed in the women's 800m at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Games. Her three appearances at the Olympic Games are the most by a Gambian female athlete.
Four Gambian athletes competed at Rio 2016. The delegation included Faye Njie and Pap Jonga, who became the first competitors to represent the NOC in judo and swimming, respectively.
