General Interest
The Cook Islands first sent a team to the Olympic Games in 1988 in Seoul, where six men and one woman competed across three sports - weightlifting, boxing and athletics. The NOC has sent a delegation of athletes to compete at each edition of the Games since. The Cook Islands was represented by nine athletes at Rio 2016, the largest team it has sent to an Olympic Games.
Weightlifter Sam Pera competed at three Games between 1992 and 2004, more than any other athlete from the Cook Islands. His son, Sam Pera Jr., has also competed at the Olympic Games and placed 12th in the men's +105kg weightlifting category in 2008 in Beijing.
