In Rio de Janeiro in 2016, athletes from Cameroon competed in judo, volleyball, athletics, weightlifting, freestyle wrestling, and boxing. Freestyle wrestler Annabel Laure Ali came closest to the podium as she lost a bout for a bronze medal in the women's 75kg category.
The Cameroon men's football team won the NOC's first Olympic gold medal at the 2000 Games in Sydney. The side, which contained players such as Samuel Eto'o, Lauren and Geremi, beat Spain 5-3 on penalties after the final finished 2-2.
Francoise Mbango claimed Cameroon's first individual gold medal, securing the Olympic title in the women's triple jump at the 2004 Games in Athens. She repeated the feat at the 2008 Games in Beijing, and remains Cameroon's only two-time gold medallist.
Cameroon's other Olympic medals have come in boxing and weightlifting. Joseph Bessala became the first Cameroonian athlete from any sport to finish on the podium at the Olympic Games by winning silver in the welterweight category of the men's boxing competition in 1968 in Mexico City. Lightweight boxer Martin Ndongo Ebanga won bronze at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, while Madias Nzesso claimed bronze in the women's 75kg weightlifting competition at London 2012.
