General Interest
Brunei Darussalam was represented by three competitors at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, two in athletics and one in badminton. The NOC made its Olympic debut in 1996 and has missed only the 2008 Games in Beijing since.
Abdul Hakeem Jefri Bolkiah became Brunei Darussalam's first Olympian in 1996 when he competed in skeet shooting. He went on to become the NOC's first dual Olympian at the 2000 Games in Sydney, and is the only athlete from Brunei Darussalam to have competed at the Olympic Games on more than one occasion.
In London in 2012, Maziah Mahusin became Brunei Darussalam's first female Olympian when she competed in the women's 400m athletics event.
