General Interest

Bolivia first competed at the Olympic Games in 1936 in Berlin, where swimmer Alberto Conrad Machuca contested the men's 100m freestyle event. He was Bolivia's sole athlete at the 1936 Games. After missing the next four Games, the NOC sent a team to the 1964 edition in Tokyo and has only missed the 1980 Games in Moscow since. Athletes representing Bolivia are yet to win an Olympic medal.

Bolivia sent 12 athletes to the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro to compete in road cycling, athletics, judo, shooting, and swimming. Bolivia sent its largest Olympic contingent to the 1992 Games in Barcelona, where the NOC was represented by 13 competitors.

Swimmer Katerine Moreno has competed at more editions of the Olympic Games than any other Bolivian athlete. She made her Olympic debut as a 14-year-old at the 1988 Games in Seoul, but there was a 12-year gap to her next appearance in Sydney. She then participated in the Games in 2004 and 2008 to give her a total of four Olympic appearances.

Nelly Chavez-Wright became the first female athlete to represent Bolivia at the Olympic Games in 1984 in Los Angeles. She finished 42nd in the marathon.
