General Interest

Barbados sent a delegation of 12 athletes to Rio de Janeiro 2016. The competitors took part in athletics, triathlon, swimming, shooting and tennis at the Games.

Barbados made its Olympic Games debut in 1968 in Mexico. Apart from Moscow in 1980, the NOC has competed at every edition of the Games since.

Obadele Thompson became the first athlete representing Barbados to win a medal at the Olympic Games, claiming bronze in the men's 100m in 2000 in Sydney. He remains the only athlete representing Barbados to have finished on an Olympic podium.

Shooter Michael Maskell holds the record for most appearances at the Olympic Games by an athlete from Barbados. He competed in the skeet competition at four consecutive editions of the Games between 1992 and 2004, and then made his fifth Olympic appearance in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
