General Interest

Armenia has won a total of 14 medals at the Olympic Games. Athletes from the NOC secured four podium finishes at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro, which included one gold medal from Greco-Roman wrestler Artur Aleksanyan in the 98kg category.

Armenia has had success in Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling and weightlifting, with 13 of its 14 medals coming in those sports. Boxer Hrachik Javakhyan's bronze medal in the men's lightweight category at the 2008 Games in Beijing is the exception.

Greco-Roman wrestler Armen Nazarian won Armenia's first Olympic medal when he claimed gold in the 55kg division at the 1996 Games in Atlanta. Nazarian would go on to win a further two Olympic medals - gold at Sydney 2000 and bronze at Athens 2004 - while representing Bulgaria.
