General Interest

Angola first appeared at the Olympic Games in 1980 in Moscow. The NOC did not compete at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles but has sent a delegation to every edition of the Games since 1988.

Runner Joao N'Tyamba participated in six editions of the Olympic Games, the most by an Angolan athlete. He competed in the 800m in Seoul in 1988, the 800m and 1500m at the 1992 Games, before concentrating solely on the 1500m in Atlanta in 1996. He switched to the marathon for the 2000 Games in Sydney, where he recorded his best Olympic result in any discipline by finishing 17th. He also competed in the marathon in 2004 and 2008.

In 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, the Angolan women's handball team made their sixth consecutive appearance at the Olympic Games. The team progressed to the knockout phase for the first time after recording two victories in the group stage, before eventually losing to the Russian Federation in the quarterfinals.
