General Interest
Andorra sent four athletes to Rio de Janeiro in 2016. All four competitors were Olympic debutants, including flag bearer Laura Salles who became the first female athlete to represent Andorra in judo at the Games.
Andorra has competed in each edition of the Games since 1976, but athletes from the principality are yet to win an Olympic medal. One of Andorra's most impressive results was recorded by Emili Perez in the men's road cycling race at the 1988 Games in Seoul. Perez finished in ninth position, while his brother Xavier placed 59th in the same race.
Trap shooter Joan Tomas and distance runner Toni Bernado share the record for most appearances by an Andorran athlete at the Olympic Games with five each. Bernado participated in the men's marathon at five consecutive editions of the Games between 1996 and 2012, with a best finish of 49th in 2000 in Sydney, while Tomas' five appearances came between 1976 and 2012. Tomas also became the oldest athlete to have represented Andorra at the Olympic Games at London 2012, placing 33rd in the trap competition at age 61 years and 171 days.
