General Interest

General
France booked their ticket to Tokyo at the Olympic qualification tournament held in Graz, Austria, in May 2021. France were the first women's team to qualify at the tournament, confirming their place at the Games with a tight 15-14 win over Japan in the semifinals.

The French team have been serious contenders at the last two World Cups, finishing third in both 2018 and 2019. However, they are yet to win a world title, with their best performance at the tournament a runners-up finish at the inaugural edition in 2012. At the 2019 World Cup in Amsterdam, they went unbeaten until a 14-10 defeat to Hungary in the semifinals. France secured third place with a win over Australia. In 2018 they lost to the Russian Federation in the last four, before beating the Chinese team in the third place match.

France are the pre-eminent team at continental level. They are reigning champions of both the Europe Cup and European Games, winning both competitions in 2019, and also claimed the 2018 Europe Cup title.
