General Interest

General
Serbia qualified for the 2020 Olympic Games through the world rankings list. They arrive in Tokyo as the most successful team at the World Cup, having won four of the six titles on offer since the inaugural tournament in 2012. They were champions in 2012 in Athens but had to settle for the runners-up spot behind Qatar two years later in Moscow. Serbia then won three consecutive titles between 2016 and 2018, defeating the United States of America in the final in 2016 and the Netherlands in the finals of both 2017 and 2018.

Serbia's World Cup streak was broken in the semifinals of the 2019 edition by Latvia in a three-point loss, before they went down to Poland by a similar margin in the third place match to mark their first World Cup campaign without a podium finish.

At continental level Serbia won back-to-back titles at the Europe Cup in 2018 and 2019, defeating Latvia by a point in the final in 2018 and France in 2019. However, they have not had it all their own way at continental level as they are yet to claim gold at the European Games. They won bronze at the tournament in 2015 and were knocked out in the quarterfinals by hosts Belarus at the 2019 Games.
