He began playing basketball formally in 1994 in Novi Sad, Serbia. "I asked my father to sign me up for the school basketball team at the age of nine after I watched the movie 'White Men Can't Jump'." "From the first practice, I fell in love with the game and I remember finishing the practice and going straight to the street court and just continue to hoop with my friends and hang out. Born and raised on the streets of Liman, Novi Sad, basketball is one of the biggest sports in Serbia. It wasn't until around until 6th Grade that I became invested in turning my passion into my profession. Since then, I had the desire to be a professional athlete. I moved to a different school with a better basketball program and shifted my mentality to becoming a professional athlete." (redbull.com, 31 Dec 2019)

3X3 EXPERIENCE
He grew up playing street basketball in Serbia, which he believes helped shape him into a 3x3 basketball player. "Every time you're outside or you're having a gym class in a school, you play 3x3, you never play 5-on-5. I played 3x3 almost all my life and won my first 3x3 tournament in 1996. It was always better to be outside with friends and a lot of times I missed [5-on5] practice because I was staying outside to play 3x3. That's why I think I develop the game of 3x3 more because it was much more fun, and it was free. I didn't have any kind of problem with practising or anything and just grabbed the ball and came down and played. My first international win was in 2012, organised by the FIBA network of international tournaments." (tokyo2020.org, 29 Oct 2020; redbull.com, 19 Dec 2019)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
He launched the Bulut Hoops training camps for children around the world. "I was sitting at home, meditating, thinking and then it crossed my mind - if I don't pass on what I know, everything will be forgotten. So that's the primary thing with Bulut Hoops, to pass on the knowledge and pass on the mentality of the player as a champion. I'm a player first, so my competitive playing comes first, but whenever I have free time, I do Bulut Hoops camps and I want to connect and make the network so that when I retire from active playing, I can hold a global camp with the best players in the world." (redbull.com, 09 Jan 2020; fiba.basketball, 28 Sep 2020; tokyo2020.org, 29 Oct 2020)

FATHER'S INSPIRATION
He says that he was inspired by his father to do achieve. "I remember one of our conversations and what he told me when I started to train basketball was to create good working habits. He told me, 'Watch out, everything you do, do it right, always do your best. If you play basketball, be Michael Jordan; if you do physics, be Albert Einstein; if you draw be Pablo Picasso'. In the end, I became Dusan Bulut in basketball. I hope I can inspire somebody, at least one kid to go and follow their dream, not just basketball players, but maybe regular people to achieve their dreams."
