General Interest

General
The ROC were one of three men's teams to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo through the world rankings.

Previously, the Russian Federation made six appearances at the World Cup, with their best performance a third-place finish at the 2014 edition on home soil in Moscow. At the last two editions of the tournament they struggled to contend with the world's elite teams, ranking 12th in 2018 and 16th in 2019. At the 2019 World Cup in Amsterdam, their record of three losses and one win was not enough to progress beyond the pool phase.

The Russian Federation have enjoyed most success in continental competition. They have won gold at both editions of the European Games in which the event has been contested, overcoming Latvia in the final at the 2019 Games in Minsk and Spain in the gold medal match in 2015.
