Poland earned their spot in Tokyo through their performance at the Olympic qualifying tournament held in Graz, Austria, in May 2021. They were the top-ranked team in Graz, winning five of six matches, and their victory over Latvia confirmed their place among the first teams to compete in 3x3 basketball at the Olympic Games.

At the 2019 World Cup in Amsterdam, the Polish team won three of their pool games and lost the other to Japan. They then defeated Puerto Rico in the quarterfinals, before they were eliminated at the semifinal stage by the US team that went on to win the tournament. However, they bounced back to claim third place with an 18-15 victory against Serbia. It was their best performance yet at the World Cup, after ranking fourth in 2018.

Poland's highest ranking at the Europe Cup is fifth, which they managed in both 2018 and 2019. At the 2019 edition in Debrecen, they lost in the quarterfinals by a single point against Spanish opposition. They came fourth at the 2019 European Games, beaten by the Russian team in the semifinals and hosts Belarus in the bronze medal game.
