Originally a long track speed skater, she accompanied the Dutch short track squad on a trip to Bormio, Italy, in 2009, where she received an invitation from national coach Jeroen Otter (NED) to train with his team. "I originally did short track following a few workouts to improve my elbow technique. A few years later I switched to short track completely." (isu.org, schaatsen.nl, 29 Sep 2021)
"It goes so fast, we lie diagonally with one hand on the ice and you can feel the wind going through your hair. It's so cool." (rijnmond.nl, 14 Jan 2019)
Win a medal at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. "It's not enough for me to skate at least one lap so I can say my career is complete. Not at all! There needs to be a medal."
"I am at least as keen for a World Championship. That goes for everyone who competes there, by the way. The Olympics are a snapshot in time. If you happen to be good it can be successful. But you do not work towards it differently than at a World Championships. You want to win there too." (schaatsen.nl, 29 Sep 2021)
