Began skating at age eight at the Sportium ice rink in Den Bosch. (isu.org)

:

"I used to do inline skating and I enjoyed doing it but at some point I chose short track. Speed skating is so boring. It is really all about that the fastest time. Short track is about passing, tactics. That is just a lot more fun to do." (isu.org)

:

"I hope to improve every year, so I can participate in World Cups and the Olympic Games. And yes, I would like to win medals there too." (schaatsen.nl, 15 Sep 2018)

:

Short track skater Suzanne Schulting (NED), PyeongChang 2018 Olympic gold medallist and seven-time world champion. "Being on a team with someone like that is more of a pleasure than a burden. It is wonderful to be on the track every day with the best short track star in the world. She makes me better in every way. If I can keep up with her at top speed in training or give her a hard time, that can only mean one thing. What I'm doing at that moment is really good. It really helps to get better when you have someone in front of you who is so good." (trouw.nl, 22 Jan 2021)

"In short track the technique is never perfect, there is always room for improvement. It has simply been taught to me that you should never sit back and be lazy and satisfied." (trouw.nl, 22 Jan 2021)

General Interest

KEEPING IT IN THE FAMILY
With international short track skaters throughout her family, she says she does not feel any pressure from this family legacy. "I've never had enough of everyone talking about my name. On the contrary. I am extremely proud of what the family has achieved."

For a time, her father Marc coached Xandra and her sister, Michelle. "He became our trainer and so he started short track again. It's nice that he understands it all." (trouw.nl, 22 Jan 2021, volkskrant.nl, 4 Mar 2021)

COVID-19
Contracted COVID-19 in October 2020. "I adhered to all measures and yet was suddenly at home for 16 days. Fortunately, I did not have a fever, but was very tired and had cold symptoms." (schaatsen.nl, 14 Jan 2021)
