HOMELAND TRAINING
Born to a Chinese father and Hungarian mother, Shaolin Sandor and brother Shaoang were given an opportunity to train in the People’s Republic of China, early in their careers. “We were really lucky, when we started in 2006 there was a World Championship in Hungary and the Chinese team came and my dad, being Chinese, started speaking with them, helped with different things in Hungary and getting to know the country. They said since your two sons are Chinese, they should come train in China. It sounded good to my dad so he decided to take this chance to bring us to China and we were training there for one-and-a-half years. Before our results weren’t really good. TATTOOS

Won bronze in the mixed team relay at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. Also finished sixth in the 1500m.

Part of the men’s 5000m relay team that won Hungary’s first Olympic Winter Games gold medal, after claiming victory in PyeongChang 2018. Liu, brother Shaoang, Viktor Knoch and Csaba Burjan set a new Olympic record (6:31.971), finishing 0.064 seconds ahead of silver medallists, the People’s Republic of China. “It’s such a big honour. The journey was really long to get here. The team qualified for the Olympics in eighth position, the last position, and we made it count.”

Hungary last won a medal at Lake Placid 1980 and had won six medals (2x silver, 4x bronze), all in figure skating. (reuters.com, 22 Feb 2018)
