Moved to the United States to play junior hockey in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) in 2014, first for the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, then for the Minnesota Wilderness, playing two seasons before attending college. "Hockey is very big in the United States and there are a lot of great leagues and the level of play is better than in Latvia. You also have more opportunities to continue your career at all levels."
