Started skating because of her grandmother, and while she never skated, she was a big fan of the sport and wanted Miriam to learn. As she improved, her grandmother drove her to practices and always supported her the best she could. (Athlete, 14 Jun 2021)

:

To make the top-10 at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. "We have competed together at two Olympic Games, but we never made the cut for the free skating. It would be a dream to skate a clean free programme at that huge event." (Athlete, 14 Jun 2021)

Competing at the 2021 World Championships. "A few months ago I would have said that our 10th place at the world championships in 2019 was our biggest achievement. Now I am much more proud of the world championships 2021, even though it was only 11th place. We did not have any competitions to prepare, Severin struggled with an injury in training, and the pressure was huge. I am so proud that we were able to put out everything possible in this stressful situation and secured the quota place for the Olympic Games 2022." (Athlete, 14 Jun 2021)

:

Julia Kiefer (Severin Kiefer's sister). "She is incredibly hard working and she meets each new challenge with determination and optimism. The way she is teaching her athletes and how she finds an individual approach to each single one, is admirable." (Athlete, 14 Jun 2021)

:

Coaches Knut Schubert (GER) and the late Jean-Francois Ballester (FRA). "Knut has given us so many important life lessons, and Jean-Francois has given us the confidence to believe in ourselves and our goals and thus has fired up our motivation that is pushing us every day." (Athlete, 14 Jun 2021)

:

Always does some exercises she had developed with her sports psychologist in the dressing room before putting on her skates at each competition. (Athlete, 14 Jun 2021)

General Interest

FROM SINGLES TO PAIRS
She successfully competed in single skating, winning two national titles in 2009 and 2010, and went to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games (26th). She took a year off after that and when she came back in 2011, it was hard to catch up again and she announced her retirement in February 2012. "The motivation was gone when you know you once were the best and now you have to line up again. But I missed it and started training again in February [2013], first in singles. End of March [2013] he [Kiefer] asked me if I want to skate pairs with him." (figureskating-online.com, Oct 2013)

COACH
Coach Knut Schubert (GER) is the 1983 and 1984 European bronze medallist in pair skating and finished fifth at the Sarajevo 1984 Olympic Winter Games with partner Birgit Lorenz.

DEATH OF THEIR COACH
The sudden death of their coach Jean-Francois Ballester (FRA) in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland in December 2018 came as a shock to her and they couldn't train. "We were not focused at all. We didn’t want to hurt ourselves or get injured."

The couple withdrew from the 2019 European Championships after the short programme citing emotional stress.“The pressure and stress were all just too much." (Pirouette Magazine, Feb 2019; europeonice.com, 30 Oct 2019)
