Team Perret/Rios

General Interest

Silver medallists in PyeongChang, Jenny Perret and Martin Rios are Switzerland’s premiere mixed doubles specialists. They lost the 2018 Olympic final to Canada’s Kaitlyn Lawes and John Morris (who returns to Beijing with a new teammate) by a 10-3 scoreline. They finished the round-robin at 5-2 and defeated Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) 7-5 in the semi-final.

At 13 World Championships hosted to date, Switzerland has won seven medals – all gold – to lead all nations. Perret/Rios went 10-0 to capture the 2017 world title but struggled to a 5-5 mark in 2021, finishing in fifth place. Rios also partnered with Nadine Lehmann at the 2012 and 2013 worlds, winning gold in 2012 with a spotless 11-0 mark.

Sven Michel, who plays second on the Swiss men’s team in Beijing, won the 2011 and 2018 world titles. His teammate in 2011 was his longtime partner Alina Paetz, who will throw fourth stones for the Swiss women’s team in Beijing.

Perret/Rios has a surprising 13-35 won/loss record in head-to-head matchups against the field in Beijing. This includes 11 losses to Norway (against five wins), including seven in a row dating back to the 2019 Curling World Cup Grand Final in Beijing. The Swiss have been outscored 53-25 in those seven Norwegian victories.

They are 20-11 this season, scoring an average of 8.66 points per game while surrendering an average of 6.83 points per game. This resulted in one silver medal on the World Curling Tour (loss to Norway at Bern), third-place finishes at Biel and Lodz, a fourth-place at Gothenburg and a fifth at Tallinn.

Switzerland qualified sixth for Beijing 2022 after finishing in a tie for fifth place (with Italy) at the 2021 World Mixed Doubles Championship in Aberdeen.

World Ranking: 2nd (66.799 pts)
