General Interest

Made their Olympic curling debut at Vancouver 2010. Finishing eighth, the Chinese won two of their nine match-ups with dominant victories against Denmark (8-1) and the United States (11-5), and one-point losses to France, Germany and Sweden.

In Sochi four years later, they reversed their record (7-2), but lost to Canada in the semi-final. Leading 4-3 going into the final end of their bronze medal game against Sweden, the Swedes levelled the scores forcing an extra end, where they claimed two shots and the bronze medal.

First contesting the World Championships in 2008, the Chinese have been a permanent fixture, except when they failed to qualify in 2016, after finishing third at the Pacific-Asia championships. Their debut tournament was also their best finish, losing to Norway in the 3v4 playoff, and then again in the bronze medal game.

Dominant in the Pacific-Asia area, the Chinese have won a medal every year since 2006, including eight straight championship titles between 2007-14, placing them second, behind Australia, in overall victories.

The Chinese held comprehensive Olympic Trials at two locations in Beijing over a six-week period in November and December 2021. Selection decisions were based on results and performance markers as well as previous competition records and data.

People’s Republic of China qualified for Beijing 2022 as hosts after finishing 14th at the 2021 World Championship in Calgary.

World Ranking: 14th (18.038 pts)
