His grandfather took him to Charlottetown Curling Club during his parent’s league games from age four. At age six he started in Little Rocks (half-size, half-weight children’s stones). Competitive play started almost immediately. “I can’t remember not being at the curling club as a kid.” (Athlete, 8 Dec 2021)

:

“It’s a love of the game, and that competitiveness I’ve had for as long as I can remember. That’s why curling stuck with me, I think.” (Athlete, 8 Dec 2021)

:

Winning the 2017 Brier in St. John’s. (Athlete, 8 Dec 2021)

:

“When I was young I really looked up to my parents. They were curling on TV, at the Brier and the Scotties, and they were always at the curling rink. Now in the last few years it’s Jocelyn, who has inspired me to work hard. She’s got an amazing work ethic and she’s super-dedicated, and I think we feed off each other a little bit.” (Athlete, 8 Dec 2021)

General Interest

INSPIRATION
“When Brad (Gushue) and Mark (Nichols) won (Olympic) gold in 2006 it was a big moment for me because I started thinking Olympics. I was 16, so maybe I was at the right age to be inspired or influenced. I’d always wanted to represent Canada and now the Olympics were on my radar.” (Athlete, 8 Dec 2021)

PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND
“Being from P.E.I. I feel like there’s actually less people with Olympic aspirations there than there are in other places in Canada. That might sound weird but there’s not a lot of Olympians that come out of there. I remember when Dave McEachern won gold in bobsled in Nagano, I was only eight years old so I didn’t know exactly what it all meant, but I remember the excitement.” (Athlete, 8 Dec 2021)

FIANCEE IN BEIJING
His fiancee Jocelyn Peterman will be competing in the women's tournament at the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games. “Once the event begins, I’m sure contact will be, you know, fairly limited. We’ll just see what the restrictions are like. If we’re able to maybe watch each other play. Or if there’s no chance of that, it’s just something we don't have to deal with. Just knowing that she’s there and she’s going through it and she’s going to experience the same thing and it’s exciting enough. We’ll definitely have lots to catch up on after the event is over as well.” (cbc.ca, 30 Dec 2021)
