General Interest

FRAT HOUSE
Isolated with Team Gushue and their coach in Vancouver for three weeks before Beijing. “It’s like a frat house without the booze.” (nytimes.com, 23 Jan 2022)

MIXED DUTIES
Departed for Beijing with women’s team alternate Lisa Weagle earlier than their four-player teammates to serve as an alternate for Canada’s mixed doubles squad in case of a positive COVID-19 test result prior to February 2. Served as mixed doubles assistant coach, filling a spot left open when Canada’s national coach missed Beijing due to COVID-19.

COACHING FLAP
Caused controversy during his 2018-19 sabbatical from curling with a statement that he didn’t like seeing Canadian coaches working with international teams, believing they should coach Canadian athletes. “I didn’t want to create a storm, it was more of a personal reflection. I do believe it, for me. For my own personal reasons, in that I want to help Canadian curling as much as I can. But I wasn’t trying to create waves for the people who have chosen to grow the game outside of Canada, I’m in full support of that as well. I just think I would have a hard time doing that.” (Athlete, 29 Dec 2021)

FOR THE KIDS
Founded a youth bonspiel, the Marc Kennedy Junior Classic, held annually at three Edmonton-area curling clubs. The fifth annual edition plans for 200 participating junior curlers (52 teams).
