Graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology from Memorial University of Newfoundland and an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 2006. Received his certification of Mac-Nutrition in 2021.
Wife, Colette Lemon (married 2011). Sons, Beckett and Emmett. Father, Gerry. Mother, Helen (died in 2018). Sister, Shelley.

Mother Helen Nichols (Curling): Competed at the 1992 Tournament of Hearts representing Newfoundland.
Sister Shelley Hardy (Curling): Bronze medallist at the 2002 World Junior Championships. Won the 2005 Canadian Mixed Championship with her brother. Four appearances at the Tournament of Hearts (2006-07, 2010, 2017).

He has memories of family bonspiels at age three or four, at the Carol Curling Club. He remembers his parents holding on to the straps of his snowsuit as he holds on to the stone handle, being carried to the hog line. (Athlete, 20 Dec 2021)

On-ice the team trains for two hours per day five days per week. Off-ice he is active as a physical trainer, both with clients and in his own workouts.
