OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
The National Olympic Committee of the US Virgin Islands was formed in 1966 and recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1967. They competed at every Olympic Winter Games from 1988 to 2002 and, after a 12-year hiatus, returned at Sochi 2014.

It has had 26 Winter Olympians (22 men, four women) who have competed in Alpine skiing, bobsleigh and luge. Its best-known entrant has been luger Anne Abernathy, who competed five times - 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998 and 2002 - recording its best Winter Olympic finish at Calgary 1988, when she was 16th in women's singles.

In addition, Abernathy became the first woman from any nation to qualify for six Olympic Winter Games in 2006 but failed to compete after breaking her wrist during a practice run. Despite her injury, she was officially recorded as a participant at Torino 2006 and therefore broke her own record.

At Seoul 1988, sailor Peter Holmberg won a silver medal in men's Finn, the only medal won by an athlete from the US Virgin Islands.
