OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Switzerland first formed a committee in 1902, but the National Olympic Committee was created in 1912 and was recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the same year.

Switzerland first competed at the Athens 1896 Olympic Games when it was represented by the gymnasts Louis Zutter and Charles Champaud, and by the sport shooter Albert Baumann. Switzerland also competed at the first Olympic Winter Games at Chamonix 1924 but previously competed in the figure skating and ice hockey events at the Antwerp 1920 Olympic Games.

It has participated at every Olympic Games and every Olympic Winter Games, one of only four countries to make this claim (Great Britain, France and Italy).

Most of Switzerland's medals have come in Alpine skiing (66 medals, 22 gold), where the Swiss have always been among the top nations.

Switzerland's top Winter Olympians have been Simon Ammann (ski jumping) and Dario Cologna (cross-country skiing) both winning four gold medals. The nation's most prolific female medal winner is Alpine skier Vreni Schneider, who secured five medals (three gold, one silver, and one bronze) across the 1988 and 1994 Olympic Winter Games.
