OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Moldova's National Olympic Committee (NOC) was formed following the break-up of the Soviet Union in 1991, and recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1993. Moldova first competed as an independent nation at the Lillehammer 1994 Olympic Winter Games, represented by one male and one female biathlete.

The NOC has competed at seven Olympic Winter Games with 17 athletes (13 men, four women), competing in Alpine skiing, biathlon, cross-country skiing, and luge. Its best finish was eighth by biathlete Natalia Levcencova at Torino 2006 in the women's 15km individual.

Three Moldovans have competed in both biathlon and cross-country skiing at the Olympic Winter Games - Ion Bucsa (biathlon in 1998, cross-country skiing in 2002), Alexandra Camenscic (cross-country skiing in 2010, both disciplines in 2014), and Elena Gorohova, who had four Olympic Winter Games appearances competing in biathlon (1994, 1998, 2006) and in cross-country skiing (2002, 2006).

Moldova made its Olympic Games debut at Atlanta 1996 and has attended all editions since. Moldovan athletes have won six medals (two silver, four bronze) but none on snow or ice. The nation's most successful Olympians have been canoeists Nicolae Juravschi and Victor Reneischi, who together won two gold medals competing for the USSR, and one silver for Moldova.
