OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Puerto Rico first competed at the London 1948 Olympic Games and has competed at every Olympic Games since then. It made its Olympic Winter Games debut at Sarajevo 1984 and competed from 1984 to 1998, and then again in 2018.

At Salt Lake City 2002, no Puerto Rican competed but the NOC entered a bobsleigh team which eventually withdrew. It did, however, march at the Opening Ceremony, its flag carried by one of its bobsleigh athletes, Manuel Repollet.

Puerto Rico has had 18 Winter Olympians, 17 of them men, with Mary Pat Wilson the only woman, who competed in Alpine skiing at Calgary 1988. Puerto Ricans have competed in Alpine skiing, biathlon, bobsleigh, freestyle skiing and luge.

Puerto Rico has won 10 Olympic medals, with its first gold won by Monica Puig in the 2016 women's tennis singles. At Tokyo 2020, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn won its second gold medal in the women's 100m hurdles.

However, the best-known female Puerto Rican athlete may be tennis player Gigi Fernandez, who played for many years on the WTA Tour. Fernandez represented Puerto Rico at the Los Angeles 1984 Olympic Games, but later switched allegiance and won Olympic gold in women's doubles at the Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, alongside Mary Joe Fernandez (no relation) for the United States.
