OLYMPIC GAMES HISTORY
Monaco competed at the Antwerp 1920 Olympic Games and has since missed only the Olympic Games of 1932 (although it had art entrants that year), 1956, and 1980. No Monegasque athlete has won a medal in an Olympic sporting event but in 1924 Julien Medecin won a bronze medal in the architecture portion of the now-defunct Art Contests.
Since first competing at the Sarajevo 1984 Olympic Winter Games, Monaco has been present at each of the subsequent Olympic Winter Games. The nation was first represented in the bobsleigh by Albert Grimaldi, Prince of Monaco, an IOC Member, and the son of Prince Rainier and Princess Grace. Prince Albert competed five times in bobsleigh from 1988 to 2002.
Monaco has had 18 Winter Olympians, with only one woman, Alexandra Coletti, who competed four times in Alpine skiing (2006-2018). These 18 athletes have competed in Alpine skiing (six) and bobsleigh (12), with its best finish coming at Torino 2006 in 2-man bobsleigh - Jeremy Bottin and Patrice Servelle placed 12th. Gilbert Bessi rode bobsleigh alongside Prince Albert between 1988 and 1998, but Bessi also competed at the Olympic Games at Seoul 1988 in the 100m.
